Frequently Asked Questions
What I perceive to be frequently asked questions are listed below. If there is anything not answered here or
on our general help page, you can e-mail us at
support@fetchmymusic.com and we will try to answer.
Using the system
- How do I add songs that can be accessed online? Songs that can be accessed online
are added by adding entire folders in the desktop application. Select the Folders link on the left-hand side
of the Desktop application, and browse for folders containing music that you would like to access online; add
as many folders as you would like. Click on the Update Songs button when you have
made changes to the folders, and the application will update the information on
our servers.
- How do I access my friends' music? You can access your friends' music through Facebook.
You will both need to have the Fetch My Music Facebook application and Fetch My Music desktop application installed
and connected. You can use the Facebook application to view your friends that also have the application, and if a friend's library is online, you can access his/her library by clicking
the link under his/her photo.
- How do I let my friends access my music? Your friends will not be able to initially
access your entire library. Your friends are only able to access playlists that you create and mark as
"shared". If a playlist of yours is marked as shared, your friend can access your library through Facebook
and will have a list of all of your shared playlists displayed.
- How do I create a new playlist? Playlists are only made through the Fetch My Music website
while you are viewing your own library. Select the first song that you would like to add to your
playlist, and click the Add button. Enter a new playlist name in the text box of the pop up message, and
if you want the new playlist to be shared with your friends, check the "share this playlist box" and click OK.
The playlist will now be added to your libary.
- Do I need to download anything in my web browser to use Fetch My Music? You need to have Adobe
Flash to use Fetch My Music, but this is already installed for most browsers. You do not need to install any additional
plug-ins or applications on the "remote" computer.
Technical Questions
- Why do I have to leave my computer running to use Fetch My Music? The Fetch My Musics desktop
application needs to be running to transfer songs to the web browser. Since your songs are stored on your computer,
they cannot be retrieved if your computer is off, in sleep mode, or logged out of a user account.
- Can Fetch My Music be installed on more than one of my computers? Fetch My Music will work
best if you have only one computer per account. Otherwise, you may find that your songs library is overwritten in
our system or cannot stream properly when you attempt to use the website.
- What is .NET Framework and why do I need it? It is a Microsoft product that has
some of the information in it that our desktop application needs to have in order to work. Some computers
will have this already installed, and some will need to install it.
- Can I create a playlist from my friends' songs? Playlists can only include your own songs.
You cannot create playlists of your friends' songs, nor can you add your friends' songs to your own playlist.
- Can I download music using Fetch My Music? No. Music is streamed from your home computer so that
you or your friends can listen to the music online. You may not download your own or your friends song on another
computer using Fetch My Music.
- What mobile devices work with the mobile version of Fetch My Music? Since the Fetch My Music
mobile device player requires Adobe Flash Lite, the mobile device must support Flash in its web browser. You
can see a list of supported devices on the Adobe website.
Troubleshooting and tips
- Why do some of my songs work with Fetch My Music, and some do not? Right now, Fetch My
Music only can play MP3 files. If you have songs in your music library that are M4P, WMA, or any other
music format, the Fetch My Music player cannot play the files at this time.
- Why do my songs sometimes stop in the middle of streaming/become choppy? Streaming music
is optimal for songs with 64-128 kbps. Any higher quality songs will stream slowly and sometimes stop completely
if the Internet speed cannot handle streaming quickly enough.
